Georgetown Area: Home Stories

Today, we look into the story of a family with an adventurous soul and a dream in mind. When the they decided to look for a new home in the ever-changing Austin-area Real Estate Market, the call to seek the advice of a trusted friend, Sarah, was a natural one. This family forged a friendship with Sarah and the Sutfin family over the past decade through a number of common interests. They first met through the community of a local Austin church. This family also had the opportunity to volunteer alongside Sarah and her family on mission trips in Uganda and Nicaragua.

This particular January evening, we see Jillynn and Steve with Sarah on the back porch of their Georgetown home. Sarah and Jillynn catch up as Steve walks across the back yard to watch the sun sink along the western-facing fence line. This outdoor-loving couple, along with their sons and their daughter-in-law enjoy as much outside time as Texas weather will allow. Most mornings or evenings. you will find them on the porch with a cup of warm coffee in hand. On many cold evenings, you will see them gathered around the fire pit or playing corn hole while watching the sun begin to set. When their grand-pup comes for a visit, you will find him romping happily through the expansive backyard, while the string of solar lights click on to illuminate the grove of Live Oaks.

Outdoor space has always been important to this adventuring family. Sarah knew this as she searched diligently to find this gem of a home in Georgetown for them. With an avid love of the outdoors, including summer travels to the Colorado mountains to go hiking or fly-fishing, Sarah knew that back yards and back porches would be key factors in selecting the right next home in the Central Texas area for this family. As Sarah began the search, she looked for a home using a specific lens. She knew this couple loved outdoor space, but they also loved the challenge of transforming home interiors.  Sarah has laughed and dreamed alongside this family as they looked together to identify and purchase a variety of homes over the past decade. With Sarah’s help, they have purchased homes in wonderful neighborhoods in Northwest Austin, Round Rock, and Georgetown. Each time another search began, Sarah would research and then present possible homes in a variety of areas surrounding Austin. The homes had to fit within their pre-determined price range, had to have amazing bones, had to present outstanding outdoor living possibilities, and needed to offer a solid floor plan. She also allowed for and presented homes that might need a bit of “love” or even a call for “vision!” With Sarah’s skillful search abilities, the adventure of locating and completing the purchase of several homes with this family has been a story for the books. “When Sarah mentioned this home in Georgetown, she encouraged us to step just outside of the search area we had previously defined. Because of her advice, we stretched our geographic search radius north by about 7 miles. We absolutely loved the Georgetown area, but since we both worked in Austin, we wondered if the commute might be a bit long. Sarah discussed the home’s proximity to major highways, and encouraged us to take a look at it. When we visited this home, we sat on the back porch and took in the sunset, and we knew this was the right home for us.

Post purchase, Sarah is always up for a visit to her client's home. She stopped by to encourage them as the transformations wee underway. As this family worked on their beautiful little Georgetown home, Sarah dropped by to see the selection and installation of the new marble kitchen countertops. She chatted with Steve and Jillynn around the newly designed butcher-block island and began to catch up on the family’s updates. Steve laughed as he reflected with Sarah on the adventure of locating this home, “Remember, when we drove up in front of this house, I rolled down my window and told you I would buy it before we even went inside!” Steve continued, “I liked the house as soon as I drove up ... and after you took us inside, we knew it had a good layout. We also felt like it needed quite a bit of work, which actually is something we enjoy. But, I have to say, my favorite part of this home was (and still is) the back porch. I knew I was home when I sat down back there, looked out toward the fence at the sunset, and took a deep breath,” added Steve. Sarah loves the adventure of helping her clients find the spot they can call “home."

Sarah has seen this family make a few loving changes in each house she has helped them purchase. She has celebrated with them as they painted many rooms, put in new hardwoods, cleared out overgrown landscaping, or when they have created a new fire pit area to gather. She cheered for them along the way as they transformed and worked to make their houses into homes.

Finding a home, especially today in the Austin area, can feel like a giant, challenging task. Even prior to a year like 2020, the buying process can be daunting for many buyers. The road to a “next home," even for seasoned buyers, can appear to stretch toward the horizon with endless winding curves ahead. Walking clients through the buying process is a skill Sarah navigates well. From writing an offer, to scheduling and reviewing the inspection, to finalizing the close, Sarah is knowledgable, helpful, kind, and encouraging during each step of the buying process. With a kind-hearted smile, a confident business savvy, and a wealth of experience, Sarah walks alongside her clients. She helped this family along the path that led to a quiet, lovely back porch at the end of the cul-de-sac.
