North Austin communities are largely comprised of fast-growing suburban areas. Northwest of Austin, Cedar Park features quiet residential neighborhoods and several outstanding shopping centers. To Austin’s north and northeast, Round Rock is bursting in popularity with the construction of a billion-dollar Apple campus beginning in 2019 and Elon Musk choosing the city as the location for Tesla’s Giga Texas campus in 2021. Round Rock is also the longtime home of Dell Technologies. The area’s outstanding Round Rock and Leander Independent School Districts have been cited as a major factor in attracting these huge tech firms to the city.
North Austin’s residents enjoy a winning combination of incredible schools, excellent employment opportunities, proximity to Austin, and affordable homes. Housing options in both cities mostly consist of spacious single-family homes on peaceful residential streets.

Cedar Park’s Lakeline Mall is the largest of numerous shopping malls serving both cities. This sprawling shopping complex features more than 100 retailers and restaurants spread across over a million square feet of retail space. Anchored by Dillard’s, JCPenney, and Macy’s department stores, other retailers at Lakeline Mall include Aeropostale, Chico’s, Francesca’s, H&M, Men’s Wearhouse, and Victoria’s Secret. The Parke features more than 30 shops and eateries, including Designer Shoe Warehouse, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Nordstrom Rack, Old Navy, Talbots, and 365 by Whole Foods. Cedar Park also offers big-box retailers and a Cinemark movie theater at 1890 Ranch and dozens more restaurants, retailers, and services at The Shops at Whitestone. In Round Rock, Round Rock Premium Outlets features over 125 stores offering steep discounts on brands such as Adidas, Ann Taylor, Banana Republic, Disney, Express, Guess, J. Crew, Loft, Michael Kors, Nike, Polo Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, and Under Armor. University Oaks Shopping Center has more stores and restaurants, including IKEA, JCPenney, and Ross Dress for Less. Close to Round Rock’s eastern boundary with Pflugerville, Stone Hill Town Center features a Cinemark movie theater alongside retailers such as Best Buy, Dick’s Sporting Goods, and Home Depot.
Southwest Williamson County Regional Park extends over 800 acres along the boundary between Cedar Park and Round Rock. This sprawling green space features more than a dozen sports fields, six basketball courts, eight tennis courts, and a football stadium with a 400-meter running track. Popular activities for kids at the park include a miniature train ride, a playscape, and the Quarry Splash Pad. 640-acre Old Settlers Park in Round Rock is packed with recreational facilities used by many local youth organizations and amateur sports leagues. These facilities include a 20-field baseball complex, 12 lighted tennis courts, a five-field softball complex, seven soccer fields, two lighted football fields, and seven playgrounds. Old Settlers Park also has picnic and BBQ areas as well as a fishing lake. The 18-hole championship golf course at Round Rock’s Teravista Golf Club is one of Austin’s best public golfing facilities. Just south of Cedar Park, Austin Aquarium is a top tourist attraction housing thousands of species of reptiles, exotic birds, and marine creatures. Lake Travis is a short drive southwest of Cedar Park. This picturesque recreation area is hugely popular for boating, fishing, kayaking, canoeing, and many other water sports. Lake Travis’ shoreline features premier restaurants such as The Oasis, which features breathtaking tiered outdoor dining areas atop a 450-foot cliff.
North Austin communities boast well-rounded educational opportunities. Cedar Park is served by the Leander Independent School District, while Round Rock is served by the Round Rock Independent School District, and Leander is served by the Leander Independent School District. These are all among the top-rated school districts in Texas.
