Welcome to Central Austin

Central Austin is a vibrant urban area with a dynamic condo market. Some of the city’s most sought-after condos are those in downtown Austin with Lake Austin views. Central Austin’s eclectic housing options also include charming Craftsman bungalows and elegant Queen Anne and Tudor Revival single-family homes in the more historic section of Clarksville and Hyde Park. East Downtown Austin, known locally as EaDo, is one of the most rapidly changing areas, with a booming condo and single family homes market on the rise. Navigating the central Austin condo market can be tricky, so it’s important to find a guide who knows the market well!

Things to Do

Austin City Limits takes place over two weekends in October just across the river from Downtown Austin in Zilker Park. This renowned music festival features eight stages showcasing a huge variety of top touring acts. Some of the major names who have headlined Austin City Limits in recent years include Paul McCartney, Metallica, Jay-Z, Travis Scott, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Killers, Radiohead, Foo Fighters, Drake, The Strokes, and Kendrick Lamar. In April, South by Southwest takes over Downtown Austin with a wide array of major events related to music, arts, technology, theater, and literature. Originally purely a music festival, South by Southwest has long been one of the biggest events for the music industry— SXSW showcases have led to acts such as John Mayer signing their first record deals. The event has expanded since it launched in the 1980s to include keynote speeches from major tech figures and presidential candidates alongside ten days of special film screenings and countless other associated events. The grand Texas State Capitol has been the centerpiece of Downtown Austin since the 1880s. This National Historic Landmark is open to the public Monday through Friday. A less well-known Austin landmark is the Ann Richards Congress Avenue Bridge, which spans Lady Bird Lake to downtown’s south. This bridge offers spectacular views of the Austin skyline as well as the unique sight of over a million bats taking to the skies at dusk between spring and fall. Shoal Beach Metro Park is a recreation area along downtown’s Lady Bird Lake shoreline featuring hiking and biking trails as well as launches for boating on the lake. Kayak, canoe, and pontoon boat rentals are also available at the park.
